三字經怎樣用英文翻譯
“對中國人而言,《三字經》是朗朗上口的啟蒙教材,但翻譯成英語卻很難同時兼顧押韻和中心思想。”孟凡君說,考慮到這個因素,他準備了兩個版本,分押韻版和不押韻版。最終,出版社選擇不押韻、意蘊更確切的版本。

“這是幾年前的作品,現在看來,當時對圣賢之道的了解還不夠。如果現在再翻譯的話,我會全部重來。”孟凡君說,比如“人之初,性本善”里的“善”并不是good,因為在《周易》里“繼之者善也,成之者性也”,意思是人性自動走向圓滿,這是人的本性,追求好的、圓滿的。“把中國的圣賢之道自覺或不自覺地自然繼承下去,這就是善。”因此,孟凡君認為,這就沒法翻譯了,如果下次再翻,就只能做注釋。
作為教師的他讀《紅樓夢》超過70遍。
孟凡君是西南大學外國語學院的英語老師,但在學校,他卻以講《紅樓夢》出名。他說,年輕時深受導師影響,關注中西古典文學,力求將中西古典文化完全貫通,所以對中西文化作品都很喜歡。
