 上一次小編給大家講了五個英語中的特定成語和俗語，今天接著分享一些有趣的俗語。

 1.come out in the wash  

   A：指某件事情會得到圓滿解決。

  例：

   My buddies and I are organizing a biking trip across the country. We  

haven't mapped out the entire route or arranged for our food or lodging.   But I think there's plenty of time to work out the details. It'll all come out in the wash by the time we leave.
我那幫哥們兒正在籌劃一次騎車橫跨美國的旅行。雖然我們還沒有確定整個行程的路線，也沒有安排好食宿，但是我相信還有足夠的時間敲定這些細(xì)節(jié)。到出發(fā)的時候，一切都會水到渠成。

  B：come out in the wash 還有水落石出，真相大白的意思。

 例：

   The governor claims that he resigned because of a health crisis. So

far he's refused to answer reporters' questions. Perhaps he's afraid 

of what might come out in the wash. Maybe they'll find out that he's 

trying to cover up what could become a political scandal!
記者報導(dǎo)說：這個州長自稱是因為身體不好才辭職的。但是他一直拒絕回答記者的問題，也許他是擔(dān)心暴露真相。記者們或許最后會發(fā)現(xiàn)，他其實是掩蓋一件可能成為政治丑聞的事情。

2.Cash cow 指搖錢樹或者是一個企業(yè)里特別盈利的部門。

  例：

When David Beckham joined the L.A. Galaxy, he created a lot of attention. Americans who had never watched soccer suddenly started buying tickets. But will he be worth the millions that the team paid for him in years to come? Is he their cash cow?"
當(dāng)大衛(wèi).貝克漢姆加盟洛杉磯銀河隊，引起了大家的普遍關(guān)心。很多從來不看足球的美國人也突然間開始購買球票了。銀河隊為了把他弄到手，花了數(shù)百萬美元。在今后幾年里，貝克漢姆能成為他們的搖錢樹嗎？

3. Carry the day.指一個人一件事、或是一種意見占據(jù)上風(fēng)的意思。

  例：

 When architect Maya Lin first proposed her design for the Vietnam War memorial, critics thought it wasn't traditional enough. They didn't think a granite wall that sloped into the ground was a proper tribute for those who lost their lives. Eventually her plan  carried the day, going on become one of the most visited sites in Washington, D.C.
這位歷史學(xué)家說：建筑師林瓔最初提出越戰(zhàn)紀(jì)念碑的設(shè)計方案時，批評人士認(rèn)為不夠傳統(tǒng)。他們認(rèn)為高度逐漸降低、最后插入地面的大理石墻的設(shè)計，不足以用來悼念越戰(zhàn)的陣亡者。但是最終，林瓔的設(shè)計方案還是被采納了，至今依舊是華盛頓特區(qū)游客最多的景點(diǎn)之一。

4.bread and butter 是生計，主要收入來源的意思。

例：

  When I saw my neighbor Katie's artwork at a gallery, I was amazed by her talent. I assumed that painting was her bread and butter. But she told me that it's only a hobby;she couldn't live on the money she makes from the paintings she sells.
我在展廳里看到我的鄰居凱蒂的畫兒后，簡直被她的藝術(shù)才華折服了。我以為繪畫就是她的收入來源，但她告訴我，畫畫只不過是她的一個愛好，因為賣畫賺的錢不夠她維持生計。
5.by the book 循規(guī)蹈矩，照章辦事

I remember how clever my father used to be at getting around rules and regulations.  He always found ways to disobey our City Council.  But, he is a changed man since he immigrated to the United States.  Now, he does everything by the book!
